A Weekend In Bordi

It was in May 2009, getting bored of the normal routine me and my husband decided to take a small leave. With weekend only in our hands we decided to go to some place near Thane. Our search end when we landed in Bordi.

Bordi is a small holiday spot. Initially we did not know the place and decided to go to Silvassa. We started on the Saturday morning and reached Bordi by early afternoon. On the way to Silvassa when we stopped for refreshments we came to know about a holiday destination named Bordi, near Dahanu, a small town, on the National Highway-8. It was 25 km approximately inside on the NH-8. Dahanu, a quiet seaside town with a sprawling, uncluttered beach, is situated in Thane District. Dahanu to Bordi distance is 15 kms. It was just we were going on and we decided to had drive till Bordi and than return back and go to Silvassa. When we reached there in about 30 min we concluded it was our right destination. On our way to Bordi from Dahanu we found that Dahanu is lined with fruit orchards mainly Chickoo and is famous for Chickoo fruit. The road was narrow and both sides of it were big Chickoo trees loaded with Chickoo. The tree is quite similar to the mango tree.

When we reached Bordi we decided to stay at Mahrastra Tourism Dev resort as we were not aware of other hotels there and MTDC resort was seemed to be better to us. It costs about 2000/- per night for the wooden cottages and about 1500/- for the concrete building rooms. The resort was small but at the beach. The back gate of the resort opens to the sea. There were 4-6 wooden cottages with all facilities like geyser, air conditioner etc. We took one of the cottages that was most near to the sea. The big window of the cottage opens to the sea. It was a bright sunny day and tide was low, so the sea had backed about 1 km or may be more. The resort manager informed us that in the evening water would come till the resort boundary.

Since the resort was a bit aloof from a city, there was problem of power cut. When we reached there, power cut problem was there and we were informed it would be fine in 3 hours. It was a bit disappointing as we were traveling since morning and wanted to take rest in an ac room. When we opened the big glass window facing sea our problem was resolved, the cold breeze entering in our small cottage gave the air conditioner effect. We had our lunch in the cottage itself facing the sea but with great precaution. The reason for precaution was if anything, any food material falls on the floor of the cottage then there would be wild ants all over the floor, as our cottage was on the ground supported but few wooden blocs. To get rid of ants there were cemented tables outside every cottage in open air for dinner purpose. We spend the rest of our afternoon in the cottage looking at the sea at leisure. While spending a leisure afternoon we realized that the entire stretch of the beach from Dhanu to Bordi is beautiful. It has a backdrop of orchards of different fruits mainly Chickoo.

In the evening when sun was about to set we moved towards the sea. The tide was still low this time also but water had covered a big distance towards the resort. Here I noticed that sea water was a bit muddy and not clear, the reason I came to know from locals was here soil is black so water looks a bit muddy. There were water organisms floating in the water. They look like small flowers. I did not know the name of those water specie.

Blackish Sea Water with Small Organisms
One thing that I noticed and that surprised me a lot was in the evening the beach, which was almost empty with a few people in the afternoon, was crowded with people. I was suspired that from where all these people emerged in the evening as in the afternoon I had seen only resort people. Later I came to know that there were many private bungalows at the beach and owners use them as their beach house as well as private hotels hence the crowd was there. Also the locals come to beach, which was more than a km long, for their evening walk. Local children come to play at the beach. Being the weekend the rush was more. I had no idea this place was so popular. We took a long walk on the beach than sat on the cold sand watching the sun setting in the horizon. After the sun was set and it was dark we returned to our resort. We sat at the concrete table outside out cottage in leisure and took late dinner there itself. It was a no moon night, completely dark outside. But we could hear sea roaring very clearly also a few locals which were there at the beach till late night. It was very good experience of spending the night at the sea. Late nigh we went to sleep.

There was not much to do around in Bordi. It was a peaceful beach on which you can have long walk in morning and evening. The sea water is also not clear it’s blackish, so having water fun is ones own choice. The other thing I noticed about the beach was water level was quite low, it one moves for half to one km in water than water comes to waist height. I guess this might be the reason there were very less water activities. If one wants to engage in water sports or some sort of adventure Bordi is not the destination than.

Bordi is a very peaceful place where one can relax and enjoy the beautiful scene.

Next day in the morning we left the place. I noticed that water had again gone back about a km. The morning was cloudy and it was a bit cold outside. I would say a pleasant morning. After having breakfast we took our way back to Thane. On our way we stopped at a Dairy Farm on NH-8. I don’t remember the name of that farm but it’s a quite famous one, famous for its quality. All sort of dairy products and milk sweets are available here and that too of the best quality. Paneer pakora is one of the specialties of the farm. It had small restaurant also. We had our lunch there and got paneer pakoras parceled for our evening snacks. We also bought milk cake from here. Late afternoon we reached Thane.

  1. All was fine till the black waters came up. What good is the beach if it does not offer fun with water. May be going to Silvasa would have been a better option. Sound perfect for drunkards like me but a scenic option for a couple ?????????

I you have enjoyed it then it must be good. Happy traveling.
